Wimmer Prepares for Final ASAMT Event of the Season

After three weeks off Chris Wimmer prepares for Oktoberfest Weekend and the final ASA Midwest Tour event of the season.  “It was nice to have a few weeks off,” says Chris Wimmer, “But I’m definitely ready to get back on the track.  The Fest is always fun.”

The ‘Fest, as it’s called, is known as one of the biggest race weekends of the year in Wisconsin and beginning last year also serves as the championship for the ASA Midwest Tour Series.  “Oktoberfest has been huge for years,” says Wimmer, “It’s something everyone looks forward to and to also have it as the ASA Championship it huge.  Last year over 65 cars were entered.”

And last year didn’t work out how Wimmer had hoped.  After only running a couple of races, Wimmer entered the #52 in two different races Oktoberfest weekend.  However, he failed to make either race by only one position.” It was tough because I hadn’t raced a lot last year and was trying to play catch-up,” says Wimmer, “Also, the best of the best come out for the ‘Fest, it’s definitely one of the toughest races of the year to make.”

This year though has gone well for Wimmer.  As he enters the final ASAMT race of the season, he currently sits 4th in points and can mathematically still finish as high as second.  “We had that string of a few top five finishes in a row,” says Wimmer, “And that was huge.  The points are really tight and I know some guys last year moved as much as two spots, up or down, in the final race.  We really need to race well to try and finish top-five in points.”

While Oktoberfest weekend is one of the most looked forward to of the year, it’s also the longest race weekend of the year.  Racing begins as early as Thursday and runs through Sunday.  Wimmer and the ASAMT hit the track for practice Friday, qualifying and qualifying races Saturday, and the 100-lap feature Sunday.  “They’re changing up the qualifying a little this year,” says Wimmer, “So it should be interesting to see how everything plays out.  I’m looking forward to the weekend though and it should be a good way to wrap up the ASAMT season.” For more information go to www.asamidwesttour.com or www.lacrossespeedway.com.
